The question has been posed to me and I wanted to get some feedback. It has been done by cities in the past to raise awareness of soccer in those cities and to boost their profile in the eyes on the soccer community. Do you think we could host some Gold Cup matches in the dome? Would you go? Do you think we could maybe get the USMNT?
I think it is a good opportunity to bring in some soccer fans and maybe some fans who would only come out for national team matches. Depends on how high the bar is to get into the Gold Cup stadium list. Just a thought I wanted to pass on.

No reason why not. You could close to sell out the place with a doubleheader of the USA and Canada

Absolutely. It doesn't have to be the USMNT at this point, getting any of the countries to play here would be a huge step forward.

Hell. Yes. I'm planning on traveling around to Gold Cup matches next summer, including the final at the Rose Bowl. Any set of matches at the 'Dome or here in DC I will definitely be at for sure. I agree that a Canada or USMNT would be ideal, but that would likely be out of the hands of the 'Dome (and in the hands of that asshole Jack Warner). But, I don't care if it's Grenada vs. the Turks & Caicos, I will likely be there to support soccer in the 'Dome.

I think it would be great. It would be epic if the US and Canada met at the Dome...we would be able to sell the place out in a heartbeat I would assume.

Problem with that is that Canada, the U.S. and Mexico all automatically qualify for the Gold Cup. They are each put into their own group with 3 other small teams. The only way we can play Canada is in the knockout stage of the tournament...likely we could see Canada play someone in their group at the 'Dome.

Sorry, but if Mexico were playing the national team from Hell, I'd be there with fake horns, singing, "There's only one Adolf Hitler...."
