Just in case some of you haven't caught it, England's captain, John Terry, has been involved in a huge controversy in the last several days, following accusations he had an affair with the former girlfriend of his England teammate Wayne Bridge.  Speculation exists that his position as captain of the team who will play against the U.S. in the first round of pool play in the World Cup could be in jeopardy, although it is looking more and more likely that he will keep that role.  The particular ESPN SoccerNet article linked above highlights that there appears to be more support from teammates for Terry than originally believed.  Other stories related to this whole controversy are linked within this article.

Well, so much for that...for those of you who might not have caught it, John Terry has been removed as the captain of the English team, and the title has been given to Rio Ferdinand, at least for the next pre-World Cup Friendly they play.

My question for the forum:  Who do you think will be the captain of the English team by the time they play the U.S. as the World Cup gets under way?  There are a few possibilities here.
And, do you think England will be able to overcome this by that time?

I think that Gerrard will become the captain by the start of the World Cup.  He's played the best on the international stage, and he's captain of Liverpool.  I think Lampard should be considered, but since he's not even captain of Chelsea (Terry is), then he probably won't get it.  Then again, Rio's got it for now and he's not even the 1st vice captain of Man U (Neville is captain, Giggs is 1st vice captain, Rio's 2nd vice captain).

My opinion is that Terry should still be captain. What you do in your personal life should not transfer onto the pitch. He would still be my captain if I was manager. To play along, as much I hate to say it, I'd pick StevieG as captain.  And it's awesome Fabio picked Rio because I think he's past it.
